L’ORFEVRERIE CHRISTOFLE –CHRISTIAN FJERDINGSTAD –Tea Set Tonnelet – 1933
A modernist tea set with stylised beaks and rosewood handles designed in 1933 for Christofle by the Danish silversmith Christian Fjerdingstad (1891-1968) who was one of the greatest Art Deco silversmith and designers. He worked with Christofle, a renowned French silverware company, from 1924 to 1940 under the guidance of Luc Lanel. Its modernist design is based on variations of the circle and spherical lines that keep an organic, natural side. These spherical lines and circular variations in the design could possibly resemble the shape of a small barrel or cask, hence the name “Tonnelet”.
